As road construction, mining operations,
and infrastructure projects continue to advance, motor graders are being used
more and more extensively in earthwork leveling and pavement construction. As
heavy-duty equipment, the maintenance of motor graders directly impacts
construction efficiency, equipment stability, and service life. Standardized
daily inspections and regular maintenance can effectively reduce failure rates
and enhance construction safety.
Daily Inspections Ensure Stable Equipment Operation
Before starting the equipment, check for
oil and coolant leaks, and inspect critical components such as tires, hoses,
bolts, and cutting blades for wear or looseness. At the same time, promptly
remove dirt, gravel, and other debris from the dozer blade and disc areas to
keep critical components clean.
The cab windows, rearview mirrors, and
safety markings must also be kept in good condition to ensure a clear line of
sight and operational safety. Tire pressure should be checked daily to prevent
reduced vehicle stability and shortened tire life caused by underinflation.
Additionally, the electrical
system—including wire connections, battery charge, and lighting—should be
inspected regularly to prevent operational disruptions caused by loose wiring
or insufficient power.
Regular Maintenance Extends Equipment Lifespan
Engine oil is typically changed every 500
operating hours, with the oil filter replaced simultaneously to ensure proper
engine lubrication. The air filter and radiator should also be cleaned
regularly to prevent dust and silt from affecting engine performance and
cooling efficiency.
The hydraulic system is a critical
component of the motor grader. Hydraulic fluid should be changed regularly, and
the seals on the hydraulic pump and lines should be inspected. Replace aged or
worn parts promptly to minimize oil leaks and low-pressure issues.
Protective Measures for Long-Term Storage
When the equipment is stored for an
extended period, the entire machine should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent
corrosion of components caused by dirt and oil residue. Additionally, the fuel
system should be drained, and the battery should be removed and stored in a
dry, well-ventilated environment to maintain sufficient charge.
Safety Protocols Must Not Be Overlooked
Before performing maintenance, park the
motor grader on level ground, place the transmission in neutral, and engage the
parking brake. Ensure the dozer blade and attachments are fully lowered. Shut
off the engine and disconnect the power supply before beginning maintenance to
prevent accidental startup.
As construction projects place increasingly higher demands on equipment reliability, scientific and standardized maintenance has become a crucial foundation for ensuring the efficient operation of motor graders.
